Next, a permission form went home for another field trip we have coming up however, I forgot to include the cover letter that went with it. This will be coming home in Tuesday folders next week. Please turn in all money and permission forms for this trip as soon as possible. Online payments are available for this trip. If you can pay online, please do so, it eliminates extra things I have to do before I can start class each morning if you pay online.
I'm sure you have noticed the increased use of Google with homework this week. I attended a state training on Google Apps for Education at Ocracoke over break and really want to make use of this tool. I am going to be posting more homework assignments through Google Classroom and returning homework through Google Classroom. Please have your child write down their usernames and passwords at home so you can also check behind them for returned assignments and comments about them. In order to keep track of nightly reading, I am loading an assignment to the Reading Google Classroom and students will need to create a Google Doc to record short summaries about their reading. They can write all the summaries for the week on 1 Doc, they do not need a new one for each night. Summaries only need to be 4-5 sentences.
Math - We started the quarter studying numerical patterns and graphing, but our main focus is going to be fractions. We will begin this study late next week.
Reading - Our focus this quarter is on fantasy texts. Please help your child to choose fantasy texts to read at home this quarter.
Science - We are studying motion and design this quarter. Due to the craziness of tracking in with a snow day, 3 hour delay, and Saturday school we will not really get much into this unit until next week.
Social Studies - The focus this quarter is on American Government and its foundations. Ms. Nelson will be teaching this unit during the second part of the quarter.
Last but not least, tomorrow is a scheduled Saturday School to make up for Monday's snow day. There is no before or after care provided, no specials, and no lunch. Students will be allowed into the building at normal time (8:45) and we will begin dismissal at 12:45. Please fill out this form to let me know of your plans for Saturday so I can plan accordingly.
That should be it for now! Have a great weekend!
