Fantasy Blog Entry #1 - Due Friday, February 20, 2015
The first blog entry this quarter is going to focus on your literature circle book as well as the read aloud we are doing in class. There are 5 parts to this blog entry, each section should be a new paragraph. Each section will receive a separate grade based on the following rubric.
Part 1: Summary (RL5.2) - Write a summary of your literature circle book so far.
Part 2: Fantasy Elements (RL5.5) - Explain how the characters, chapters, scenes, etc. in the book fit together to make this story fit into the fantasy genre. Use details and quotes from the text to support your answer.
Part 3: Comparison of Texts (RL5.9): Compare your literature circle book to Peter and the Star Catchers focusing on themes and topics presented in the books. Use quotes from the texts to support your thinking.
Part 4 (RL5.4/L5.5a): Figurative Language - Focus on similes and metaphors that you have found in the text. How are they used? What do they mean? Are there any cliches being used? Use quotes from the text to support your thinking.
Part 5 (RF5.4c/L5.4ac): Vocabulary - Discuss any new or interesting vocabulary words you found in the text. Make sure to quote the text where you found the word, discuss what the text makes you think the word means, and then look up the word in a dictionary.

This week's blog entry is going to be about your Literature Circle book. There will be 4 parts to this blog entry, each part should be a new paragraph. However, there will be 5 grades, read the rubric carefully to make sure you are following the assignment.
Part 1 - Write a summary of your book. Make the summary interesting, but don't give away the big parts of the book. Do not copy the blurb from the back of the book.
Part 2 - Write about the theme of the book. What is the overall theme of the book? Why? Remember to use quotes from the book to support your thinking on this. You can have more than one theme.
Part 3 - Compare and contrast 2 characters in your book. Select 2 characters and write about how they are the same and how they are different. Use quotes from the book to support your thinking.
Part 4 - Write about words you discovered as you read. Everyone completed the Word Wizard job at least once, therefore you should have plenty of words to use for this part. Remember to include the page number you found the word, the quote where the word is used, what you thought the word meant based on context clues, a dictionary definition, and a comparison of your definition to the dictionary definition.

Blog entry #2 - Due Friday, August 15, 2014
This week's blog entry is a personal narrative. There are 2 parts to this week's entry. First, write about your greatest accomplishment. Was it running a mile or jumping off the high dive at the pool? It does not have to be school related. The second part is a prediction about your greatest accomplishment during 5th grade. Again, it does not have to be school related.

For blog #1 there will be 3 parts, each part will be graded separately according to the rubric below. Each part needs to be a separate paragraph. First, write a summary of the book, be detailed but don't give away the best parts. Try to write your summary so your reader will want to read the book as well. Second, write about why you chose this book. Make sure you include how you decided if the book was at your reading level. Last, write about any new or interesting words you came across while reading. Make sure you include the quote from the book where you found the word, the page number it was found on, and what the word means. You can use context clues and/or a dictionary to help you define the words. Make sure you read the rubric to make sure you get the best score possible.
