Only 3 and a half more weeks until we get to take a break. I don't know what you feel at home, but I am feeling like we have been traveling at at least 100 miles per hour every day for the last 5 weeks. It's really hard to believe that 5 weeks are gone.
Heritage Day is this week! Projects are due on Thursday, all ready to be presented. We will spend some time throughout the day presenting our work to the class, and giving me some time to grade them. We will start our Heritage Day rotations and food sampling at 2:00. We will start in my classroom and rotate clockwise through the other classrooms every 20 minutes or so. We hope to see as many parents as possible that afternoon to share in the learning.
We had our Boosterthon pep rally on Friday last week and the pledge-a-thon has begun. Our Fun Run will be on September 14 at 11:50. I will be sending out email reminders throughout the next 2 weeks about what is going on.
We are collecting for our Washington, DC field trip. Deposits are $80 per person. Please get these sent in as soon as possible. If you can't afford to send in the whole thing, please let me know right away. The trip usually costs $200 to $250 per person, depending on how many people commit to attending. The more people we have, the lower the cost.
I am still missing some payments for the Science Is Fun in-house field trips. Our first was last Thursday. I think the kids had a pretty good time. Hopefully the cars they made have not caused too many problems at home.
We will be taking a decimal place value test Thursday or Friday, depending on how long Heritage Day presentations take. We also started a small vocabulary project today, instructions are linked on the homework page in the spelling category. There will be more to go with this assignment, but it won't be available until the end of the research phase of the project. We started our science unit with Ms. Nelson last week. They are studying weather and have some vocabulary homework this week, there are only 5 words and they are listed on the homework page as well.
I think that's it for now. Again, if I forgot something, it's probably due to the heat. It may not be all that hot outside right now, but there is still no a/c in the classroom. If we get to the end of this week without it being fixed, that makes 4 weeks with no a/c. Here's hoping someone gets here with a solution quick! Have a great week!
