Hope everyone had a great long weekend! This is going to be a very short week with a lot going on.
Friday is an early release with dismissal beginning at at 1:15.
Thursday is Heritage Day. Hopefully everyone worked hard over the weekend so there isn't much left to do except make the food. We have very limited space for cold things and will not have the capability to reheat anything. If your dish needs to be hot, please plan to bring it in around 2:00-2:15 when we are setting up in the cafeteria.
We need a few things for Thursday. A SignUpGenius was sent out earlier this afternoon in case you can help out. If you did not get the email, here is the link

Today was the official start of our Boosterthon Fun Run Pledge Collection. Students will be coming home today with their pledge books and can start collecting pledges tonight. Every student who logs on and registers at funrun.com tonight will get a prize tomorrow. You do not have to collect any pledges to get the prize for registering. Boosterthon has changed some of the rules to how much money the school earns with this fundraiser, so the more pledges and money we earn as a whole, the more money will go directly back to the school. The Fun Run will be Friday, September 12. When I get more information about times, I will let you know.
Along with Boosterthon, Ms. Nelson challenged me directly today. She is very confident that her class can earn more than we can. I told the class today that if we can earn more money than Ms. Nelson's class I will paint my hair pink, or something crazy like that.

A big thank you to those who came to our Science Fun on Friday. The scientists usually have a really good handle on class management, so there isn't much to help out with, but it sure can be fun to watch! In the pictures above you see the kids experimenting with Newton's Laws of Motion, they had lots of fun. Hopefully they were able to explain their balloon powered cars to you when they got home. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to play with them in class on Friday.
This week we are wrapping up our decimal place value unit, we will have a test on Thursday. On Friday we will begin a short unit on Powers of Ten where we will learn about exponents and scientific notation. In reading we are wrapping up comparing characters, settings, and events in a story and will begin talking about mood and tone in a text. We will also be finishing up Personal Narratives this week. And in social studies we will be talking about specialization and some different types of economies. There is a blog entry due this week as well, the assignment details and rubric are linked on the homework page. I will try to give lots of time to work on that during reading class each day so the kids don't have to work on it at home so much.
I think that covers it, have a great week!
