Happy Monday everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the weekend, what beautiful weather we had! Just a couple of things to let you know about this week.
First, picture day is Wednesday. We are scheduled for 1:00, after lunch. I would recommend not sending your child to school wearing the clothing you want their picture taken in and sending in a change of clothes that day. This way your child doesn't run the risk of getting lunch on their nice clothes. We will have plenty of time to change after lunch and change after pictures are done so they won't wear the clothes out to recess either.
Case 21 tests are next week! We are planning on taking the reading and math tests next week and the science test after track out. This way we have some extra time to finish this quarter and do a review when we come back from break.
I have put together a SignUp Genius for Fall Conferences. You will get an email to sign up later today or tomorrow. I just have to proofread it to make sure I have enough slots for everyone. Conferences are scheduled for October 16 and 17. If you are unavailable either of these days, we can schedule something for the week we track back in. I do conferences different than many teachers. I want you to bring your child with you. After all, this is their education and I want them to know exactly what I am saying and have them be a part of the discussion. They will tell us what they did well with and what they need to work on the most, then we will discuss ways in which to improve on what they did during the first quarter. I find this helps a lot with accountability when the students know what is discussed during the conference.
In math we are beginning to work on adding and subtracting decimals. We will continue to work with estimation as we move to finding exact answers. In reading we are continuing to look at character relationships and interactions. This week we are going to take more of an inferencing approach and think about what the relationships and interactions between characters say about each character individually. Last week in writing we began brainstorming for an adventure story and this week we will work on characters, organizing and drafting the story. In social studies we are going to look at the division of labor and different types of economies. In science we are going to work on wrapping up the weather unit, we still have a lot to talk about and do, but it won't take long to cover it all.
I think that covers it for this week. If there is anything else I think of I will let you know! Have a great week!
