It's finally here, track out week! What a crazy quarter! Nine days off, one early release, one delayed start, and one cancelled make-up day all due to weather. And it looks like we could get another winter storm this week! Hopefully it isn't as bad as it looks or that the forecast changes. I've been in North Carolina for 10 years now and have never seen a winter like this. One of the reasons for moving out of the Chicago area was to get away from this nasty winter weather! We have one make up day this Saturday, so technically track out doesn't begin until 12:45 on Saturday now. For a full list of make up days see the WCPSS website.
Along with track out this week comes report cards and Case 21. The window for Case 21 testing has been extended due to the huge amount of inclement weather days but report cards have not. You will be getting reports as scheduled on Friday, so if your child can't make it to school on Saturday you will still get your report card. As far as Case 21 testing goes, we will be taking the reading test on Tuesday and the Math test on Wednesday. The science test will be delayed until after we track back in. This will give us time to make sure we have covered all the human body systems.
We finally got totals for the Washington, DC trip that will take place on May 8 & 9. The final total per person was $208. Thanks to all the wonderful donations for the Valentine's Cake Walk each student earned $12 off their trip. A few students earned discounts from our fund raiser at the beginning of the year as well. Notices went home Friday about how much you still owe for the trip. Money is due back by Friday, March 28, 2014. If you have circumstances that don't allow for you to pay the whole thing at once, please send in what you can with a note explaining how you wish to take care of the remaining balance and we will do what we can to work with you. We will be having a parent meeting for all parents who are attending the trip on April 24, 2014, we also recommend that you attend the meeting if you are unable to attend the trip with your child. We will be discussing the itinerary as well as expectations for packing and traveling for this trip.
We will be having a learning experience this Friday. If the weather turns around, we will be having part of it outside, if not we will pass along another plan that may involve games in the classroom. Either way, with Friday being Early Release (at least for right now), our learning experience with be a pajama party with breakfast.
Friday is an Early Release, I believe it is the last one for the year. We will dismiss at 1:15.
I think that covers it for now. Hopefully the snow stays away and we won't have any more days to make up next quarter! Have a great week!
