That's right, 4th quarter is here and the end of elementary school draws near for another group of 5th graders. Hopefully everyone knows where they will be headed next year.
First, and probably most important is our Washington, D.C. field trip. It is May 8 and 9, so just around the corner. We are having a parent meeting this Thursday night at 5:45 for anyone who has a child attending the trip. It is especially important for you to be there if you are chaperoning for us. We will be discussing itinerary, student expectations, chaperone expectations, what to bring and not to bring, and answering any questions you may have about the trip. There will be a couple of important handouts so please try to be there. I'm sure many of you are wondering what the rooming list looks like, you will find this out in the Tuesday folder right before the trip as this document continues to change almost weekly.
Before we tracked out I showed the class a video about Arlington National Cemetery. It is called Arlington: Field of Honor and can be found on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyOSpMjwZps). It is about an hour long and we won't have time to watch it at the meeting. I highly recommend this video, even though your child has already seen it, I would suggest watching it with them and talking to them about what this place means and why it is so important to our country.
Due to the craziness of our schedule in DC this year, we are going to be doing a box lunch on Friday on the steps of the Capitol Building, I believe. There are 2 choices, turkey or vegetarian. I need to know by the end of the week what you would like. If I do not hear from you, I will assume that means turkey.
With the end of the year comes EOG testing. Our tests are June 16 (reading), June 17 (math), June 18 (science). Please do not schedule any appointments for these three days as it is really important for everyone to take the test at the same time. Students who miss the test on the day it is administered will have to take the test in a separate room with just a few students and miss what ever we may be doing at the end of that week or the beginning of the next week. If you are available to help out with testing during that week or during track 1 testing (5/16, 5/19) please email Kayla Perry at [email protected].
We are currently taking orders for 5th grade T-shirts. The kids will wear these shirts at the graduation picnic and they will be able to have their classmates autograph them. If you would like to order one, please print out the attached form and send it in with your payment by Friday, May 9th (we CAN NOT accept any late orders because of the time constraint). Checks must be written out to PUE PTA. Order forms will be in your next Tuesday folder.
I think that is about it. I have not had a chance to look at curriculum for the quarter yet so I am not 100% certain what we will be covering at the moment. I will fill you in on all of that later in the week.
